Lantern Theatre Liverpool is playing host to its annual pre Edinburgh theatre event Shiny New Festival for the fourth year this July. From 27th July – 2nd August audiences will be treated to three shows per night from the North West’s top fringe talents. The festival, founded in 2012 by Shiny New Director Pete Mitchelson in association with the Lantern has gone from strength to strength in the past four years and this year’s line up is not to be missed. With an eclectic mix of performances from new writing to buffoon clowning there is something for everyone at Shiny New Festival.

New Comedy Comes To The Lantern Theatre With The Matchbox Comedy Club.
Laughter is the best medicine. No matter where in the world and there really can never be too much of it.
Matchbox Comedy Club is a brand new, carefully curated showcase of alternative comedy featuring everything from sketch and stand up to clown and storytelling – a collection of new material and work-in-progress sets. Resident Compere Alastair Clark introduces acts you won’t see anywhere else in Liverpool in an original, vibrant, anything goes evening of fun and frolics – a little matchbox full of joy.
The new evening at The Lantern Theatre on Blundell Street, launches on Wednesday 11th February and will be held on every second Wednesday of the month.

From the strange and brilliant mind of Brian S Charity, a graduate of the Everyman and Playhouse Young Writers’ Programme, comes a delightfully daft romp through the world of television and beyond, performed by some of the region’s best new comedy talent.
Bobby & Twenk, they’re detectives. Think Cagney and Lacey on very strong drugs. A child has run away. ‘The Case of the Runaway Child’—that’s what everyone’s calling it. With their careers and even their friendship on the line, can Bobby and Twenk find him before it’s too late—or at least before the end of the series?
The Music Of James Taylor To Be Performed At The Lantern Theatre.
Accomplished duo, ‘Sweet Baby James’ (Brian Dales & Jon Chamberlain), visit Liverpool on July 11th to share the music of legendary troubadour, James Taylor.
Brought to you in the intimate setting of The Lantern Theatre, this will be a relaxing evening of James Taylor’s hits (including You’ve Got A Friend, Fire & Rain and Carolina in My Mind) plus more of the many varied songs that make up Taylor’s repertoire.
Sweet Baby James has been toured the U.K. throughout 2013 enjoying enthusiastic responses wherever they go.
