Crossing The Lines (On The Day They Raided The Lomax)

Will they check the law courts and swab the dock for flour,

Come away happy, pose for pictures, wig arrested,

the lawyers all standing round being tested

and the chambers closed down in hours?

Will they go to go to the Golf course lunch for retired heads,

swab the tees for signs of powdered chalk

and entertain the local paper with absurdist talk

and have the private hospital closed for abuse of meds?

Will they roll up en masse at Parliament Hill

and with convenience  in mind forget the hate crimes,

Interview With Chasing Infinity Ahead Of Their Debut At The Lomax.

The Lomax has history, great bands have performed there, some iconic, others are part of the music heritage that Liverpool celebrates justifiably. It disappeared for a while and as other venues sprang up, it seemed that The Lomax, like many others up and down the country, was gone forever. Then like some phoenix arising out of the ashes, The Lomax returned and music has been playing on its stage once more.  One of the young acts that has recently performed there is the band Chasing Infinity.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating * * *

It doesn’t seem like five minutes ago that the members of the fledgling group, Chasing Infinity, were making their way through the University of Liverpool Band Society. The chance to get together with like minded people through music at University may have had its detractors but as Adele Halsall, Rob Saunders, Paul McCormick and Megan Eldred have more than ably proved over the last couple of years, it is just the beginning.

Sophie Anderson, Gig Review. The Lomax, Liverpool.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating * * * *

As last minute replacements go, to find the exceptional Sophie Anderson standing on stage ready to blow the audience away in one fell swoop constitutes the beginnings of a very fine evening out.

Sophie Anderson may have found herself at a loose end on a Sunday evening in the biting cold that has come back for a second go this winter but once inside the Lomax on Cumberland Street there was no stopping this young woman from showing her magnificent vocal range that wonderfully left people taken aback in its animalistic brutal sensational quality.

Chasing Infinity are former University of Liverpool student Adele Halsell on lead vocals, Paul McCormick on guitar and backing vocals, Robert Saunders on bass, backing vocals and harmonica and Megan Eldred on drums and backing vocals. For a young band and still in their musical infancy, Chasing Infinity has already garnered a great following and their sound is impressive.

Would you fly back home from foreign fields and the same night perform to a room full of people? More than likely not; even if doing your own job, no matter how important, normally takes a back seat after an arduous journey in the air. Not for Dave O’Grady.

The Lomax is the stuff of legends in Liverpool, an old iconic venue that has hosted within its old walls some great gigs and some splendid musicians. When Barry Briercliffe steps on the stage, the venue which is steeped in history, is able to add yet another fine musician to the ranks, another Liverpool son who knows his stuff and isn’t afraid to dress for the occasion.
