It’s hard enough on the soul when we find out what our friends are like when they turn against us, what it does to the fragile nature of inner peace when we find out what are parents are capable of, especially if like Porthos, one of them has been conveniently missing for the whole of your life, is an emotional response that you might not wish upon a sworn enemy.

The safety of France is at stake and yet somehow it is The Musketeers that have placed it in danger by rescuing a man from a lynch mob. It is the sort of opening to a new series of hugely successful adventure series The Musketeers that feels as good as it possible to be.

It is impossible to ignore something forever and when you find yourself laughing at some of the absolute filfth that runs through the latest big screen adventure for the four lads who make up The Inbetweeners, you either have to check that you didn’t leave a vital part of your brain in a field surrounded by cattle licking it and getting a human high from it or ,making a mental check list to watch some of the episodes again to make sure that you just weren’t being an idiot for not enjoying it in the first place.

The Musketeers has become one of those programmes in which to simply ignore it is just not good manners! The squeal of adventure thunders in on every episode and in this final chapter of the series, Musketeers Don’t Die Easily, many traps are laid, various deceptions are deployed by the writer and even if for one brief moment the pace of the action was going to be enhanced by the sound of someone whistling Ennio Morricone’s epic score to The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, the story was one that saw the whole creation of this adaptation be seen for what it is, just terrific!

Help from friends, patronage from a great lady, luck, skill, taking on Vinnie Jones in a sword fight that on paper would surely have had footballers of a previous generation checking more than their equipment at the sight of one of the hard men of the game brandishing a weapon.

A Rebellious Woman or a woman who understood the complexity of wanting equality in an age of misogyny and pathetic fear in wondering what education would do to a female mind. Not an episode set in the current era, nor back in the dark days of 1970s Britain in which sexism was incredibly rife but in the days of France in which the rule of law was not in the lap of the King as is supposed but in that of the Cardinal and of the Church.
