There are many ways in which to celebrate or commemorate Christmas, chiefly amongst them is the act of memory, of remembering all those who have come into your life over the years but who, for whatever reason, have slowly disappeared from it, an act of forgiveness perhaps required on your part for the wrong they may have caused you, a meaningful gesture from the depths of your soul as you seek to be pardoned from the inappropriate action you may have caused distress with. It is though the act of forgiving yourself in which the time of year holds its greatest fear, a dread in which few are willing to face, and in which the Christmas ghost story deals with in spine-tingling relish.

Sink or Swim, a play conceived from falling in love with a postcard and with the care and attention that productions deserve, has grown up to be one of the funniest, enjoyable and thought provoking plays likely to be seen this year.
The Studio upstairs at The Playhouse Theatre added the claustrophobic weight needed to give the three actors, the sublime Paul Duckworth, the charming Graham Geoffrey Hicks and the impressive Shaun Mason, the lack of room on stage to make Sink Or Swim a production that sees into men’s souls and how they deal with the most extreme part of survival.
Award-winning theatre company Spike Theatre will stage the world première tour of new production Sink or Swim this spring promising to take audiences on a theatrical voyage using comedy, music and song. Directed by Spike’s Artistic Director Mark Smith, the devised play will be scripted by Robert Farquhar while Spymonkey’s Toby Park will co-direct and compose music for the piece.
Taking inspiration from tales of the 18th century ‘bedlam ships’ the company will tour to venues in both the North West and South East of England on the show’s maiden voyage with support from new venue partners Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse and The Lowry.

The Empire Theatre always has the reputation of hosting the most sumptuous and glistering pantomime productions and this year has been no exception as the cast for Cinderella provided a fantastic evening’s entertainment for the assembled audience.

Just when you think you couldn’t see a Shakespeare play performed in the most original way possible, that every conceivable way of doing it had been used, Lodestar Theatre Company come along, rip up the guide on how to present the Bard’s work, not just once but twice, as they systematically destroy the spare copy you had of Macbeth and A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

Arguably Macbeth is one of the finest plays by William Shakespeare, it has been performed nearly all over the world and many times in the city of Liverpool. However, it has to be said, never, ever, like this and for that it became one of the most spellbinding and startling productions of any of the bards works to have ever been devised.
