The race to be remembered for one’s achievements is one that normally never truly won, it can also be one that causes a degree of self-harm on the protagonist, especially when it drives them to the point of exhaustion, and the possibility of neglecting loved ones and the thoughts of the wider community.

In the war to protect what you believe is yours, sometimes you have to employ methods in which are dubious at best, downright ugly at worst, it is the thinking and planning ahead in which wins the minds of the people you are charged with protecting, but one in which the enemy you have created will fight you every step of the way to kill you first.

When a President meets a King it is with the possibility of diplomacy in mind, that deals are to be struck and offers of friendship talked over, normally with the idea of business in mind. When a President meets a King it is to smooth over mutual issues and create a shared and common goal, an interest that is beneficial to their respective countries. There are moments of cinema so longed for that when they finally arrive it is always with a touch of hesitation of whether the viewer will actually believe in the finished article. The ultimate match-ups, the suspense, the nature of heroism, the costumes, the fights, the unexpected and the one cruel eye of misfortune waiting in the wings like an errant spider, swollen, ready to pounce on anything that makes the film stand out in a way that just doesn’t fit in with the idealistically placed images running around the fan’s mind.

The least said about the 2006 Superman Returns film the better, the small screen adaptations although kept the legend alive were filler, more fluff than in a room full of pillows and for the films that made Christopher Reeve the deserved star he would be, there was so much wrong with them, so many parts miscast, so much playing for laughs that it can be often surprising to think that they three sequels.
