A new Doctor at the helm, the act of actions and their consequences firmly established and the first recurring villain for Jodie Whittaker’s incarnation of the time travelling stranger from Gallifrey to deal with and yet, despite some glorious touches by Bradley Walsh as Graham, and the genuine appeal of the guest stars of Phyllis Logan and Mark Addy, the season finale of the 11th series of Doctor Who since its return in 2005, feels as if it has discovered a way to be underwhelming; not something that any fan of the show has perhaps ever truly recognised before.

The surprise was not that Atlantis was cancelled but the fact that it was made at all.
In one of the rare mistakes of drama production by the B.B.C., Atlantis finally washed up on the shores of discontent and died a long lingering death in a series that was split in two. Much heralded as a winter replacement for Doctor Who, the second series of the fantasy based drama descended to the point where arguably viewers were watching to see how bad it could actually become.

Remember Me is the first outing in dramatic role for what seems an interminable age for one of Yorkshire’s favourite sons Michael Palin. It is a role that perhaps offered so much to one of the absolute greats of British comedy but ultimately fell flat with little hope of being considered one of the giant’s great visual feasts.

There is something magical about Greek and Roman mythology; it has consistently been a source of epic tales and for the vast majority of the stories that have survived the spectre of time, they are thrilling, exciting and serve to be poignant many millennia after they first appeared.

One of the big shows for the B.B.C. this Christmas period has to have been the latest big budget version of Great Expectations. An all-star cast, one of the biggest for a television series for a while on the channel, was greatly added to by newcomers Oscar Kennedy as the young Pip, Izzy Meikle-Small as the young misguided and manipulated Estella and a towering performance by Douglas Booth as the elder Pip.
