For many the House of Stan, the world of Marvel, has rightly been criticised for some of its output since the magnificent and overwhelming end to the Infinity saga, the damage done from the weight of expectation perhaps has been more defining than just how intelligent and interlocked the previous decade had been.

It is fair to insist beyond unreasonable debate that the two Avengers’ films, Infinity War and Endgame, were such behemoths, both in terms of box office performance and providing the type of thrill that has rarely been captured inside a cinema, that it might be suggested by some that no matter what Marvel put out in Phase Four of their ongoing pursuit of graphic novel turned visual entertainment illustrious dominance, it has already reached its zenith.

It is on the face of it a seemingly small moment in cinema but Matt Ross’ intelligent and superbly argued script for Captain Fantastic captures the point of individualism and socialism in a world that only wants you to be a drone, a consumer, a person to whom history means nothing and whose appetite for the material and the edible is verging on obese and dangerously unhealthy. It is with a touch of grace that Captain Fantastic turns that rotten ideology on its head and offers a different view on how to live.
