Such is the music provided in the last ten years by what was once Liverpool’s fledgling music community, it would be forgivable to admit that you might not have been able to see every band that has frequented the pubs, the back stages and for some the recognition afforded by the larger venues that the city has to offer. However, there will always be a part of Liverpool that will belong to Jimmy and the Revolvers, a voice that emulates that of one of Liverpool’s favourite sons, Gerry Marsden and a vibe that sits at the heart of modern transposed joy, and to witness it live, for a first time, for a hundredth time, or perhaps for a last time, is to understand what you loved about music in the first place.

There is so much in the heart of Liverpool’s ever growing abundant talent list that for many the thought of never leaving the city, never departing from the sound that comes so naturally to the heartbeat by the Mersey, is one that may be tempting. Of course that would deprive the listener of so much enjoyment from elsewhere, however listening to Jimmy and the Revolvers, it can be seen why that temptation would be whisper sweetly and the sense of lingering musical perfume would entice even the strongest and resistant of hearts into being lured in to the thought.

Liverpool without some certain young bands does not bear thinking about, they are the groups that have not only captured the new wave of the city’s music appreciation, the 21st Century in which The Beatles are still emulated and lauded but to whom also there is no personal attachment to the stories going beyond their grandparents and to whom the past now is a role model and not to be afraid of. They are also the bands that consistently give such great pleasure and the sweat of a new dawn each time they play.

Judging by the reaction of the assembled audience inside Studio 2 on Parr Street, Jimmy and The Revolvers had perhaps just given the performance of their lives.

To sing on a stage, to perform as a duo when normally your live set is a tight and almost unbreakable foursome, to play as though your voice is smiling, is something that just has to be seen and witnessed. For Jimmy and The Revolvers that quality of being able to pull off all three requirements to being to being considered having greatness thrust upon them is one that comes with a humble shrug of the shoulders and a unsaid apology as if to say, “Well why wouldn’t we?”

To anyone had the misfortune not have been around when the sound of music from Liverpool dominated the charts and audiences every couldn’t get enough of the Merseybeat, the constant niggle of not seeing some of the legendary bands and musicians perform live, to having that tingle of excitement when the fledgling radio stations dare play a song by the ever increasingly popular music is something that you have to push down deep into the pit of your stomach and walk away before the evil and destructive nature of jealousy becomes too over whelming.

With a flash of a smile, the humbling grumble of a guitar ready to be taken on a journey that reminds the music goers inside Zanzibar of days gone by when music was played for the thrill of performing and not just because the band saw images of hopeful contracts being thrust in their direction, Jimmy and The Revolvers gave a sterling performance with songs that were eminently enjoyable.
