There was a time when Todd McFarlane’s name was as arguably huge as the house of Marvel itself, an artist who breathed new and exciting life into the company for his work on Spider-man and who brought into being one of the most dynamic, deadliest characters in the world to fruition. Todd McFarlane’s name deserves recognition and awe in the same breath as Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko, Alex Ross and John Romita, a name that will undoubtedly endure and give graphic novel fans the chills when they think of one particular character above them all, that of Venom.

It is almost impossible to hold antipathy towards Jodie Foster, there is no rhyme or reason to look at her contribution to the art of cinema as nothing less than favourable and with some incredible memories along the way, from Taxi Driver through films such as Bugsy Malone, The Accused, the unforgettable performance as Clarice Starling in The Silence of the Lambs, and even in 1993’s Sommersby, Jodie Foster has sealed her reputation as an actor of outstanding quality, she has been one of the industry’s most forthright and passionate of spokeswomen.

Not quite so Gru-some but still very enjoyable with overtones of brilliance; for the lovers of Despicable Me, this third outing of a villain turned hero, his adopted children and arguably one very special group of comedic sidekicks in the history of animation, is still of such quality that the whole family can go along to the cinema and come out with everybody happy and content.

There is nothing like a good Batman film in which to soak up a few hours, Bob Kane’s gift to comic book fandom has had its ups and down, whilst enjoyable in a kitsch, clique ridden way, the 60s television and subsequent film didn’t add much to the mystique of the Dark Knight, whereas Michael Keaton’s and Christian Bale’s interpretation of the man and the myth was completely and beautifully captured by their respective directors.

If only pets could talk, if all animals were able to tell us exactly what they want and why they want it, perhaps the world would be a hell of a lot nicer place to live; till that becomes a possibilty outside of science fiction, there will always be the strain of human misguidance and misjudgement when it comes to The Secret Life of Pets.
