You need separate your feelings and your emotions when watching the five-part miniseries, White House Plumbers, for the sense of disbelief will be all consuming as the understanding of just how perilously close the United States of America came to be under a tyranny, and how deliriously the ineptness of certain individuals saved the country from being a danger to itself.

Think of all the times you have been somewhere and you have felt the excruciating wrench in your stomach which says, you made a wrong choice bud, you messed up pretty good, and the final demand of, well perhaps it cannot get any worse. There have been many moments of those in cinema, there will be a plethora, a veritable feast of cringe more in the big screen’s future but few arguably will surely be seen in the light of day, be buffeted the cold wind of slapped foreheads, than the intensely unlikeable Blockers.

Snatched. Film Review.

Cast: Amy Schumer, Goldie Hawn, Ike Barinholtz, Wanda Sykes, Joan Cusack, Tom Bateman, Bashir Salahuddin, Christopher Meloni, Óscar Jaenada.

 

Mixed: a sense of neither engaging, being fun enough to overlook the obvious, or unresponsive enough to find certain aspects of the film entertaining; for Snatched, it might go down on its epitaph that this particular film is neither here nor there. Its ideas are laudable but not sincere, that it brings one of the greats of her time in Goldie Hawn back to the screen but then doesn’t relish the part that she plays as the once gregarious girl of the film’s past nor as the woman who made films such as Death Becomes Her and Private Benjamin such sublime pieces of art.

Take the worst of the worst, the real depths of humanity’s struggle with itself and watch the fur fly, the angst become riddled with pain, glory and sabotage and you have the comic book film of the summer, Suicide Squad. A film that carries on the expanding D.C. universe and which at the back of its mind arguably sees it wanting to desperately take on Marvel at its own game.

Bad Neighbours 2: Sorority Rising. Film Review.

There seems to be no shame in a sequel, in many cases the story demands that the character’s lives are further resolved or they are at least interesting enough to wonder what would happen next in their lives, that the demand for the story will always ensure a franchise. The first one though, the first part, that is where the demands starts and if the first film goes down in flames then the second one should never be attempted upon pain of death in the audience.

It seriously makes you worry for the future of American comedy if all a studio can come up with is a film that relies far too much displaying the bodily differences between the two main male leads, more needless swearing than you find underlined in a dictionary by somebody with limited vocabulary and an over reliance on showcasing the university fraternity system and their spat with modern day suburbia. It has been down before, with better artistry, finer scripts and with a couple of notable exceptions with better leads and supporting cast. Bad Neighbours is no Animal House. It even has the dubious pleasure of somehow managing to make the National Lampoon films seem like gold dust.
