Paloma Faith, Gig Review. Liverpool Philharmonic Hall.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating 9/10

There are some artists that just radiate so much style and panache that their every move is watched with a type of gleeful appreciation. Some lack the real high of sublime talent to see the style through to its logical conclusion. This is not something that can ever be aimed in the direction of Paloma Faith, for style read elegance, talent, she has by the bucket load and grace is something that seems to come naturally to her.

Space, Gig Review. East Village Arts Club, Liverpool.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating 9/10

When the five musicians that make up Space come home to Liverpool, there is a the sensation of static electricity that rises up through the floorboards of which ever venue they have decided to play in and the expectation of a high tempo and seriously fun evening to be had.

Peter Gabriel, Gig Review. The Hydro, Glasgow.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating * * * * *

Peter Gabriel is closer now to that certain age in which others aspire to start taking it easy and concentrating on other aspects of life. However when you are having as much fun as Peter Gabriel, feeling as much warmth from a crowd and giving a scintillating performance in which the audience could only marvel at, why worry, there is so much left for this man to achieve and do.

Midge Ure, Gig Review. Citadel, St Helens.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating 9/10

When Midge Ure steps on stage, all eyes are naturally always on him. There is the noticeable and understandable plethora of pictures taken by the long term fan wanting to keep their collections up to date of the man that has thrilled them for over 30 years and then the odd shy newcomer taking a picture and hoping that nobody minds. Then it all stops, the camera’s seem to be put away and nobody dares put off the man who makes a Saturday night out, a real treat. What is left is a man who bought songs such as Vienna, If I Was and Dancing With Tears In My Eyes and the guitar, no more no less and the result is tremendous.

PIL, Gig Review. 02 Academy, Liverpool.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating 9/10

Watching John Lydon on stage surely has to go down as one of the most singular pleasures you are ever likely to have in life.  For those who grew up with him as part of their musical heritage or simply because he made a certain television programme watchable for the time he was on there, John Lydon is an iconic man to behold on stage and in life. For those that made their way to the O2 Academy in Liverpool to witness PIL give a sensational account of themselves, that living legend grinned down at the audience and gave them a night to relish.

The Selector, Gig Review. 02 Academy, Liverpool.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating 9/10

To tour with PIL, you have to be good. No two ways about it, you have to be better than good you have to be of the calibre that the audience will take to immediately and have the presence of a Greek titan holding aloft the captured remains of an enemy at war. In Pauline Black and The Selector, both requirements were met with astonishing ease and for the crowd at the 02 Academy, to have this type of pedigree as support to PIL, to John Lydon and the fabulous set of musicians would have been like having dinner at Claridges and being allowed to have the desert, after dinner mints and coffee first.

All We Are, Gig Review. 02 Academy, Liverpool.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating * * * *

It may not have been the sort of homecoming All We Are may had expected as they took to the stage at the 02 Academy in Liverpool but on a night when Everything Everything unfortunately postponed their gig at the last minute, there was no doubting just how fantastic the threesome of Guro Gikling, Richard O’ Flynn and Luis Santos have become

Opening up for Everything Everything on tour had been enjoyable; it was visible in the eyes of all three musicians as they played their music with an added exuberance, an extra zip in which they took full advantage of and above all shone as their self-belief showed for the audience to revel in.

Dean Friedman, Gig Review. Epstein Theatre, Liverpool.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating * * * *

The applause could have rung out all night inside the Epstein Theatre; Dean Friedman can have also performed well into the small hours of the following day if time deemed it possible. However, even the sight of the American music maker on stage for two sets was more than enough in the end to placate the crowd who had sat thrilled and elated by the sound of the man, his melody and his music.

Pavilions, Gig Review. o2 Accademy, Liverpool.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating * * * *

Even if somehow the name Pavilions somehow has managed to pass you by, by the end of their slot as part of the support for Chicago’s Medina Lake, there could be no doubting the buzz that was circulating round the room at the end of their set, the way they were greeted and cheered during it and the way each member handled themselves throughout.

Medina Lake, Gig Review. o2 Academy, Liverpool.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating 9/10

If a main act can be surmised by the company it keeps in the type of support it has on before them then Medina Lake should be lauded for being one of the most energetic, most lively and physically demanding bands of the last few years. The invisible energy that had been building up from the start with the outstanding Buckle Tongue, through the Fearless Vampire Killers and Pavilions and culminating in a cacophony of sweat, blistering power and a mutual admiration between rock act and Liverpool audience.
