The writer of Broadchurch must love playing with audience’s minds so much that he seems to take them to the point of one explainable and rational theory, before offering a certain line or screen shot which might go unnoticed in the melee of damnation and finger pointing, and a new line of though runs through the head and screams, “What about me?”

The penultimate episode of Dancing on the Edge, Stephen Poloakoff’s jazz masterpiece, was turned up another notch as the police started to close the wrongly cast net on Louis Lester and in an episode in which echoed the rise and fall of the Louis Lester band, the heat and the mood was increased and given just that little extra spice in jazz movements.

Ripper Street, The Good Of This City. Episode Four, Television Review. B.B.C. Television.

The fourth episode of the gripping Ripper Street, the evocative The Good of This City, had more than a nod to the Timberlake Wertenbaker play Our Country’s Good. Whereas though no one was being transported halfway around the world to a penal colony that would be the death of most of those that originally were sent there, there was still the utter displeasure in seeing the locals of Whitechapel being compulsory evicted from their homes in the name of progress.

The continuity announcer said before the start of the second part of the second story of Whitechapel, that some viewers may find some scenes upsetting, she might have well as ushered into the phrase, “and you’ll kick yourself for not realising who the killer is.” Such were the latent and subtle clues strewn throughout this final part that it was easy to forget the one fleeting and seemingly innocuous moment in the first episode where the murderer was revealed.
