There was once a view point that there were books that just could not be filmed, regardless of cost, the story-line was just too complex or even off the scale in its imagination to hold a television or film audience’s attention, at least not without confusing them and losing interest. View points are subjective, The Lord of the Rings would have been considered impossible, Terry Pratchet’s work would have been consigned to this particular undead realm, and books such Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell, and ideas such as Alien would have long been left on the shelf.

It seems that no matter what, Tom Hanks is able to draw the viewer in completely into his world, whether in the imagination of a child but in the body of a grown man, a corporate lawyer who contracts HIV in a time of misunderstanding and fear or as Captain Phillips, a veteran freight captain, he has it all.

American politics is littered with moments at the Oval Office being governed and run by those that are easily lampooned, satirised and generally ill thought after their death. Perhaps in modern times none so more than Richard Millhouse Nixon, he even beats Presidents Reagan and Bush in terms of those that want to try to understand how he ticked, none so more than American comedian and professional Nixon impersonator Harry Shearer.
