After Hue and Cry’s blistering set at the Philharmonic Hall as part of the tremendous evening of 80’s music in 2013 and the superb evening supplied by the brothers at Eric’s in 2012, it can be no surprise that the duo will be coming back to Liverpool to present another night of their excellent music on April 5th.

Some journeys are never meant to end; there is always time for a new chapter, even in the most long and incredible of stories there is always time for one more nugget of information to be told and savoured. Within the circles of rock, Big Country’s story could have ended when much respected former vocalist Stuart Adamson sadly passed on as the new century began. No one would have blamed anybody as Stuart was a colossus, a man whose presence can still be keenly felt by many as they listen to his voice through the back catalogue.

They say all the best journeys are filled with good memories, the people we meet, the sights we see and the times we live through whilst going there. Some journeys are unexpected; they come around sweeping us off our feet and taking those caught in its wake along for what could be the most important quest of all. Big Country’s first album for the best part of 14 years is The Journey in name and spirit alike and where one chapter regretfully closed with the sad passing of the band’s former frontman and icon Stuart Adamson in 2001, another door opens wide as the group find belief in their conviction of providing excellent rock music once more and in The Journey they take the first tentative steps in reclaiming that ground again.

It has to be said that Mike Peters really is the epitome of musicians who never know how to sit still and take in their place in society, nor can he ever be accused of giving anything less than 100 percent when he is on stage. Whether as part of one of the finest bands to come out of Wales, The Alarm, his occasional forays into the world of Big Country of which he has done a splendid job fronting or when it is just him, a guitar and a harmonica; he never ever gives less than the crowd deserves.

Apart from a reunion tour in 2007, the band Big Country has been out of the public eye for the best part of a decade. With their lives being shook by the untimely passing of former band mate Stuart Adamson it is reassuring and a pleasure to see the other three original members and their two very special guests play to packed out venues and getting the reviews that a band of such stature deserves.

Looking back at an album’s life can be unnerving. It reminds you of where you and what you were doing when you became conscious of the first notes of a debut record by a new and extraordinary fresh band. The time on the albums credits are indication to the passing of your own life, the mortality that’s attached to your love of the record. You treasured the time together, you poured out your own soul and fears whilst listening to the poetry and distinctive music of someone else.
