The dark is at times comforting, a place in which to feel the warmth of another with more intent, where secrets are whispered, where traumas are held with a sense of symbolic belief, but no matter the comfort felt, the dark is a place of mutual blindness, a gesture of impaired attraction; for when we can’t see the light, the information becomes skewed, it is reliant on the trust imparted at the time, when the dark had us in its thrall.

It might not always be the case, but a song that undoubtedly comes from the soul is arguably indicative of the nature of the person who creates it, and who brings it to life in the performance. It is the reflection of the depth of humanity felt by the listener that reveals the nature of the art and the artist, and when the subject is stripped back to see how it works, how the cogs and wheels interchange within movements, it feels as though the intention was to fracture the spirit and not be concerned about the damage when somebody implores, “Don’t Break Me Up”.

At the appointed hour, and not a second before, do we venture into new territory and realise that we should have been there from the very start.

Is it time or tide that holds us back from taking that chance, from offering our soul before the clock strikes the midnight of our lives and believing that we are forever surrounded by the bright shadows of a late morning walk in the settlement of obscurity and the darkness of doubt that cast its welcome hand to us; whichever element we seek, is the one we perhaps unwittingly veer to and escaping the grip of possible acceptance by others for what we can do their heart and mind.
