Many a children’s tale of caution is one that is designed in actuality for the adult to take heed. The children of Hamelin were not the ones to openly suffer at the hands of the musician and his magic, but the parents who saw their children spirited away in act of vengeance of non-payment. It is to this effect that other tales show their true hand, the adult beware of those we cross, for the payment is often more than we can bear to lose.

Midsomer Murders: Death By Persuassion. Television Review.

You can arguably do no wrong by having the name Jane Austen come to lips of those you are indebted to performing in front of; a sure-fire winner, only the Brontes could lead the television or cinema audience to sit up and take notice more readily, even the most tenuous link will do, and it is that the scriptwriters have a moral duty to not let the work descend into a screenplay anarchy, dependent upon creating a pastiche which is below gratitude and honour to the much-loved writer, which sparks of desperation and folly.

Inspector George Gently: Gently Liberated. Television Review.

A television series can too often outlive its life expectancy, the natural story that drew the viewer in coming to a stuttering halt and becoming less than the perfect ideal viewing it once was proudly claimed to be. In some cases though what might have been perceived as the final adventures of a much loved character might not be enough, the finale of a person’s life left hanging, stuck in the rounds of congratulations and non-committal farewells. Such was the fate of Martin Shaw’s Inspector George Gently, left dangling after a successful case cracked, there really was a couple of more hurrahs left in the soul but none seemed forth coming.

Ghost In The Machine, Film Review.

There are many moments that don’t live up to their hype, that sink below the horizon quicker than the sun in an Arctic winter and become more unpalatable than a road side dinner that has been recently squashed under the tyres of an articulated lorry. No matter how good they seem as a two minute tease, the truth is they soon lose their passion and the average person soon finds themselves bored, whilst the cinematic lover suddenly finds a reason to flick through the mental notes to never see the film again.

Doctor Who, Asylum Of The Daleks. B.B.C. Television, Review.

Cast: Matt Smith, Karen Gillian, Arthur Darvill, Jenna-Louise Coleman, Anamaria Marinca, David Gyasi, Naomi Ryan, Nicholas Briggs, Barnaby Edwards, Zac Fox.

 

It is the stuff that legends are made out of and then there is Doctor Who. The nights are beginning to draw in and what better way for the B.B.C. to showcase the autumn schedules than by the re-materialising of the blue box, two of the great companions of the modern and any era, the Doctor and an introduction to a new companion that might just be the best since Janet Fielding as the Australian flight attendant Tegan Jovanka.
