True Romance.

Her wardrobes were full of designer clothes

That she knew she could not afford

Without the help of her credit cards.

Each Friday night a new skirt or dress

To make her latest lover impressed.

Every Sunday she would start afresh

As she realised that the latest one

Was nothing but a bore, not interested

In the long term, just the now and here.

On the shelf at eighteen is a terrible fear.

Her advice came thick and fast

From sex columnists in thousands of mag’s

That littered the floor, discarded

Facial Expressions.

In a tear, a lifetime’s sadness is shown.

In a tear, all manners of images are exposed.

In a tear, life can end.

In a tear, broken hearts mend.

In a smile, friends become lovers.

In a smile, true feelings uncover.

In a smile, people fall for strangers.

In a smile, we face the greatest dangers.

In a laugh, heroes stand tall.

In a laugh, comedians hear the audience call.

In a laugh, there is unity in a nation.

In a laugh, lies love’s greatest potion.

So Lonely You.

The lonely voice echoes down the multiplex of wires.

Each wire holds her cries for a second before

Passing them on to its neighbour without care.

For what do wires care about the fate of a single tear?

Without effort, I listen as the story falters from one

To the next, I know you need me there to chase away the liars.

“Please insert fifty cents to hear real desperation users.”

Comes a metallic voice full of the joys of spring.

I dare it to bid us, “Have a nice day!”

For The Love Of An Older Woman.

I saw a photograph of her years ago, stately, beckoning.

I knew she was so much older than me

And that many people, men as well as women had loved

Her beauty as much as I did now. She seemed to symbolise

Everything I ever wanted. I was in love, I was mesmerised.

She was so far away. So for many years I could by dream

Of being with her, my heart ached and my thoughts ranged

To the day when I would say, “It’s me my lady, I made it!

Missing You.

Missing You

She introduced me to the pleasure of friendship,

She made me realise the pain of love.

She saw how much I hurt, what her aching had made me become.

A quivering wreck, an emotional fool!

My heart no longer still, in time with the savages drum.

The taste, tantalising and slow

Regret that I never once told her what she meant to me.

All those years from childhood to near death

And she said, “That this moment was for me, my reward.”

For friendship will prevail, it’s all that’s left.

The past is a foreign country, as the saying goes. However the early sixties is still fresh in our minds as it bought the fashions, the music and the second wave generations of teenagers ready to find their own way, their own style and stamp their time on the following decades and those that would follow them.

You’ll Never Walk Alone, Theatre Review. Royal Court Theatre, Liverpool.

Cast: Pauline Daniels, Chris Grahamson, Howard Gray, Jamie Hampson, Adam Keast, Dan McIntyre, Mark Moraghan, Anthony Watson, Lenny Wood.

It seems to anyone from outside the city of Liverpool, that whenever they come here for their shopping trips their days out or just to catch the ferry to Ireland that all Liverpool folk talk about is football.

From little old ladies waiting for the bus in Queen’s Square, to the bars and clubs of the town centre and even discussions in barbers and hairdressers from Aigburth to Bootle to Kirby, it’s either red or blue and nothing else matters.

The Loss Of Sleeve Notes.

Originally published by The Liverpool Echo.co.uk (part of Jade Wright’s column.)

One thing that’s been lost in the digital age, is the ability to listen to the C.D. of your choice and look at the carefully written lyrics inside the sleeve notes that the artist has thought out, sweated over and hoped that in some form or another their words might be quoted and sung by random listeners up and down the country.

The words now have to be downloaded via various websites and digested for seemingly fractions of seconds before the person gets bored with it and moves onto looking at another Wikipedia site in the hope that they will find something else to take up their time.

Brit Floyd, Gig Review. Liverpool Philharmonic Hall.

Originally published by Music News. Com. July 7th 2012.

As the montage of clips from Pink Floyd’s prestigious career reminded the audience inside the Philharmonic Hall of what they were missing from the iconic British band’s lack of time out on the road in recent years, the members of Brit Floyd made their way out onto the stage and proceeded to give the crowd a master class lesson in music appreciation.

Great Britain’s Basketball Heroes Perform In Style.

Originally published by L.S. Media. September 2nd 2012.

The next two games would determine if Great Britain would take any part in the quarter finals of the men’s basketball at this year’s Paralympic games. Canada ware now virtually assured a place after their stunning victory over the Germans, who themselves should certainly still qualify despite the set-back.

Only Poland really stood in the way of Great Britain being in the second stage of the completion as the seeming whipping boys of the tournament Japan would not surely do the unbelievable and get points off a resurgent British Bulldogs team.
