The Everyman Theatre Hosts Little Bulb’s Re-imagining Of Epic Greek Myth.

This month, theatregoers will be transported to 1930s Paris in all its bohemian vibrancy, as the Everyman hosts Little Bulb’s madcap, musical re-imagining of the epic Greek myth Orpheus, from 20th to 24th October.

Set to a live score of hot club jazz, opera and French chanson, Orpheus is a musical re-imagining of the epic Greek myth. Charismatic songstress Yvette Pépin and her troupe of operatic players perform the thrilling tale of Orpheus’s ill-fated descent into the underworld to reclaim his lost love, Eurydice.

Music has played an integral part in Orpheus with a veritable feast of original compositions alongside Bach, Monteverdi, Edith Piaf and Debussy.

Welsh National Opera To Give A Fresh New Look To Sweeney Todd This November.

Welsh National Opera will be visiting Liverpool Empire Theatre on Friday 13th and Saturday 14th November to perform Sondheim’s musical masterpiece, Sweeney Todd, as part of the launch of WNO’s 70th birthday year.

This production promises a musical with all the emotional impact of opera and will be a rare opportunity to hear Sweeney Todd with the celebrated WNO Chorus and Orchestra. This production is set in the late 1970s/early 1980s and provides a fresh take on the story with echoes of Thatcher’s Britain. It emphasises Sondheim’s message that it’s not just Sweeney who is insane. Through its corruption and inequality, society is totally mad. See Sweeney Todd and you’ll find that it buries itself in your consciousness and refuses to leave. Sweeney Todd has all the emotional impact of the greatest operas.

Ex-Coronation Street Star Judy Holt Takes To The Lantern Stage In The Box Of Tricks.

Former Coronation Street actress Judy Holt takes to the stage in The Box of Tricks at the Lantern Theatre in Liverpool on 31st October. Judy, who also plays ‘Scary Mary Jackson’ in I.T.V.’s cop-drama Scott and Bailey, will be performing alongside fellow actors Samuel Thompson and Ryan Clayton.

Judy said, “I am delighted to be working with Pagelight again on this reworked version of The Box of Tricks, after the successful run at the 24:7 Festival last summer. I am looking forward to the tour and sharing our work in a variety of venues.”

Programme Of Daring Spoken Word And Music Focused Theatre Comes To Unity Theatre.

Which comes first, the music or the words?

This question underpins the programming of ‘Phrased & Confused’ a programme of original spoken word and music orientated theatre shows running at Unity Theatre this autumn.

Featuring a highly topical social commentary on the state of education today (Jess Green: Burning Books, 13th October), an investigation into dominance, submission and the female body (Hannah Silva: ‘Schlock!’, 27th October) and a rap recital of William Blake’s iconic poetry (Testament: Blake Remixed, 17th November), Phrased & Confused aims to use words and music in an equal standing to investigate issues important to us today.

Paul Heaton And Jacqui Abbott To Perform In Liverpool As Part of 2016 Tour.

Paul Heaton and Jacqui Abbott have announced their biggest headline U.K. tour to date including two nights at Hull City Hall, plus shows at Leeds First Direct Arena and the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall before culminating at London’s famous Royal Albert Hall. The tour, which commences on Thursday 10th March at Birmingham Academy, comes to Liverpool’s Philharmonic Hall on Saturday 26th March.

Wisdom, Laughter and Lines, which is released on the 23rd October, is the new album from Paul Heaton and Jacqui Abbott. This record is the second from Paul and Jacqui following the critically acclaimed What Have We Become, which saw them return together on record for the first time since the multi-million selling days of The Beautiful South, who in the 1990s and early 2000s released a string of critically-acclaimed records.

Legendary Punk act Ruts DC have announced they will embark on a major U.K. tour throughout October 2015 with a performance at the o2 Academy on Hotham Street on the 16th October.

The Ruts DC live show consists of songs representing their many phases: the more recent Rhythm Collision 2; the critically acclaimed Animal Now and of course, classic versions of Ruts songs Babylons Burning, Staring at the Rude Boys and Jah War.
