Chris Leicester’s Hurricane Hill To Come To The Unity Theatre.

Hurricane Hill and the worst storm in years…

At the isolated house of a famous recluse a stranger arrives and a past will finally be faced. Which life is more valuable; that of a child or a brother-in-arms? Given the regiment he was in, what Paul Glover had to do that night in Afghanistan might just have passed for the ordinary, but lurking in the shadows, life had dealt its hand and now the weight of his actions would materialise – with utterly destructive consequences.

Written & directed by Chris Leicester, Hurricane Hill is on at The Unity Theatre on the 18th and 19th October.

Vinyl Floor, Peninsula. Album Review.

If there is one genre of music that Britain seems to continually well at creating, then surely Progressive Rock is the one. Unlike Metal, straight rock and pop has had the good fortune of having continental and Scandinavian Europe come along and show the way forward to British bands, Prog though still remains very much in the hands of a certain type of musician and for that the joy of hearing Denmark’s Vinyl Floor’s Peninsula is greatly appreciated.

In today’s world, art can be seen as being under threat. There are many who knock the idea of the young band making their way slowly into the world of performance, insisting that they should be concentrating on being a valuable member of society by finding a “real” job. The same goes for aspiring playwrights, poets and performers, too easily knocked for having an idea or wanting to be creative.

1963 will be remembered for many things, many moments in time which defined how the following 50 years has been looked upon, sometimes with great fondness, sometimes with the pit in the stomach which leaves those living today feeling sick and morally outraged that it was allowed to happen.

There is nothing more emotionally complex or disturbing than the chance that your child may be taken from you by a person or person’s unknown. Just the thought of it is enough to give people nightmares and keep their children under close supervision. Denis Villeneuve takes this fear and gives it added depth, unblemished and raw treatment to make the thriller genre stand up and take notice of how these sensitive subjects should be approached in the film Prisoners.

Every male director needs his absolute leading lady, every screenwriter needs the one person who can carry a film from start to finish and have the audience utterly absorbed by that person’s story. Woody Allen, long since one of the masters of this art, has perhaps the distinction of being able to bring the very best out of the actors who grace his films. The excellent Diane Keaton stands out in his early works as being a gem of comedy and now as Woody Allen comes to the other side of his long career, the outstanding Cate Blanchett gives one of the finest performances of her life in the superb Blue Jasmine.
