Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating 9/10
The continual praise we lay at the feet of some artists is always a pleasure, it is a reminder that constant practise and unbound talent go hand in hand, that it is an even split between dedication and release of emotional endurance, and in Maddison Breen’s latest single Odesa, the beating heart of fearlessness and objectivity in truth is unrepentantly gorgeous.
To harmonise and meld voices as a particularly insightful music arrangement sparks life into the world is a meaningful act of rebellion in itself, it refuses to bend to the sense of musical dogma that can hound and stifle the appreciation and inspiration behind the tales of immersive freedom; and that is the conveying openness declared in Odesa, a refusal to be conflicted, and one in which the harmony of Amela pays dividends to the soul of Maddison Breen.
There is much to admire in Maddison Breen’s tireless growth as a musician, and just as you may think the sound has reached a crescendo, the wave in which the music rides take another giant push forward, a steadfast and insistent declaration of cool, groove, and pleasure in the spirit of the moment.
A new single is always a cause for celebration, it is in the tenacity of the performance of Amela and Maddison in this release that the listener will be found almost panting with eagerness and satisfaction as they find themselves in thrall of the emotion and of the delivery of seasoned artists. A wonderful return to the front line of music making, Odesa is a fantastic place in which to find yourself.
