Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating 9/10
The quiet acceptance of regret, but the hope that reveal and revelation that comes forth from the experience is a state of mind we can only hope to find in our soul when a significant relationship ends or we flounder in the wake of our untold promise; and yet for the most part we lament in the modern age with a broken heart on our sleeves to a point where the dignity is shelved in favour of the illumination of the prolonged exposure.
Dignity in expression is duty we owe to ourselves, too often we are bombarded with the thirty second micro emotion, the chance to vent with no recourse, the belief we only we only have to be engaged for a split second to have the entire story is one of bombastic destruction. Instead, it is to find grace and a certain kind of honesty that comes in The Moment of recognising that the drama of regret is not a hysterical second but an incredibly thought-out series of truths that lead to a composed peace and unruffled heart.
To hear Liverpool’s Helen Maw expose such sympathetic and empathetic reasoning in her wonderful new single, The Moment, is to hear the sound of a suffering heart coming to terms with that regret with honour, with that dignifying truth, and as the endearing Country theme strikes home it is to the greats of the genre that the listener naturally gravitates in placing Ms. Maw’s longing heart. It is a recognition of the talent that resides within the performer, and one that delights the senses ahead of the release of her live album release.
Produced by the prestigious Jon Lawton of Liverpool’s Crosstown Studio, the single is a reminder of the power of acceptance, of knowing that in the end we can look back in more than one way, and that in good times, acceptance is the positive way of moving forward. A terrific single that captures the heart of Helen Maw’s ability to its fullest.
