Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating 8.5/10
The angry men, and women, are the main reason why our planet is on the edge of constant conflict, environmental disaster, and the tipping point of nuclear annihilation. It is no secret that the large egos and the owners of the heated hearts with nowhere to vent their bigotry, their illusions of grander, the self-possessed leaders who see with hate, are the ones to whom we shall blame when the fuel burns and becomes a fire tornado consuming all.
Anger though can also be its own illusion, art seizes upon that emotion and on stage, in the public sphere of entertainment, it can be a demonstrative showcase which shows spirit. The difference being it is that is contained, it is released on the world with a safety valve and driven not by ego, but by the need to explain a position of outrage against those to whom the Five Angry Men are the representation of furious intolerance and prejudice.
Rampaging on the back of the superb Revolt, Czech metal band DYMYTRY find their art still burning with broad-minded fury, the world is not just a canvas, it is a series of exhibitions that the band regale their tremendous, and infectious, sound on the public.
Almost impenetrable, full of intelligence and lyrical metal poetry, DYMYTRY’s Alen Ljubić, Jiři ‘Dymo’ Urban, Jan ‘Gorgy’ Görgel, Artur ‘R2R’ Mikhaylov, and Miloš ‘Mildor’ Meier combine to great effect and subtly and prove why they have been busy on the road supporting the likes of Pantera and Lordi. As the image of the five angry men on stage reflects the passion of their stage craft, so the stories weaved on the album reflect their continued fight against the powers that only wish us ill.
Sonically involved, melded and forged in the heat of fire, songs such as the fiercely brilliant Enemy List, Everything Is Black, Three Steps To Hell, In Death We Trust, the sadness of truth within 1939, and the album title track, Five Angry Men, the truth of the exhibition becomes clear, and it is a reality many will shun away from, for they understand they are the ones who have aided and abetted the wraiths and the ugly minded to take control and destroy all around them with petrol and a lit match.
A superb follow up, one that pulses with vigour and passion, these angry men have a point, and we must take heed.
DYMYTRY release Five Angry Men on January 26th.
