Grey DeLisle: She’s An Angel. Album Review.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating 9/10

Talent and class never wavers, it might not have been Heaven sent, but it is a gift to which we must acknowledge comes from deep within the human soul, and talent is the result of pushing yourself to make it look easy to others, despite it always being the biggest struggle we face; but by being constant we can all achieve a level of success that we can be likened to those of the cherub persuasion who sprinkle their magic for the benefit of all who care to listen.

She’s An Angel, a voice of the messenger from deep within our hearts, and for the prolific voice actor Grey DeLisle, the emissary of the proclaimed female unashamed opinion and it is a marvellous strength of character that brings her first full length album in two decades to the audience’s attention, and one that proves with great lyrics throughout, that in every angel there is a crafty devil waiting to get out.

Thirteen original tracks, and a terrific cover of Billy Vera’s track I Really Got The Feeling, which was written originally for the queen of country, Dolly Parton, this is the whole sum of music which generates such joy and amazing energetic smiles in She’s An Angel with such joy and interest.

From the comically alluring, the tremendous collaboration of The Dog with Ray Benson through to the acerbic brilliance of songs such as I’ll Go Back To Denver (And You Can Go To Hell), I Missed You, and Who Bought The Boots Beside Your Bed, and the turn of the screw which comes with the acknowledgement of sadness in the album title track  She’s An Angel, Grey DeLisle pushes the sense of emotion with a devastating genius at the helm.

Along with other tracks contributing to the all over effect of the humongous cool, such as Stick And Poke (What Am I Gonna Do), the excellent Wasted, the groove of I Like The Way You Think, and the finale of Shake That Thing; what comes across is a resonating, virile, and superbly highly passionate recording that cannot be denied.

An utterly fantastic album by Grey DeLisle, one that will deliver in terms of the absolute, sheer class, unregulated talent; this is the reason why angels and devils exist in the same space, because we can all recognise the capacity for flair in both.

Grey DeLisle releases She’s An Angel on January 19th via Hummin’bird Records.
