Calum Ingram, Dancing In The Moonlight/Demon Eyes. Single Review.

Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating 9/10

Exposing yourself to a world of contrasts is what makes life exciting, fulfilling, strange, and unforgettable; the problem with many in this world is that they sample a taste of one, and then they never move on, they gorge, feast to their heart’s content on what has already made them fall in love.

Not that there is anything wrong with immersing yourself into the delights of one uncompromising love, but there is more to this life than finding there is nothing new under the sky to be wowed by, nothing out of the ordinary that will grab your mind and heart in unison, there is more to life than staring at the sun all day will ever complete, sometimes you have to be ready to breathe in the air and go Dancing In The Moonlight.

To understand the contrast of life shows that you have been paying attention to the sunset and the sunrise, the willingness to explore the facets of your psyche and your interests to the fullest, and if you can bend the sunshine and the moonlight to your will, if you are determined to bring them together in one gigantic solar event, then art is the absolute winner.

Calum Ingram’s debut double A-side single, Dancing In The Moonlight/Demon Eyes, is just that, an event, a unique reading of a classic by Thin Lizzy and a dynamic signature tune, delivered by string and bow, by the unlikeliest of instrument heroes for such a genre, the cello.

The influence of great musicians sits at the heart of Mr. Ingram’s outlook, the heritage is under the skin, it is in the veins, and across both tracks, the sense of Time is very much beating away, a twin heartbeat in synch but very much treading different paths, and the result is excellent, cool, brutally out of the ordinary.

Optimism is a double-edged sword, carried without humility, it can falter, fall and break, however in the moonlight, with all the magic at its disposal, it can carry a tune towards the atmosphere of purpose and refined expression; the cause celebre of exposing the mind to wild and unflappable contrasts. The cause met with honour by Calum Ingram.

Calum Ingram releases his double A-side single Dancing In The Moonlight/Demon Eyes on 31st July 2020.
