Gothic Horror And Classic Thriller Opens The Liverpool Playhouse’s Frightfully Good Spring-Summer Season.

Celebrated productions of classic texts The Woman in Black (27th Jan – 1st Feb) and An Inspector Calls (4th Feb – 8th Feb) open the Playhouse’s Spring Summer season to provide an early-year treat for theatre goers.

After a record-breaking Christmas for the Playhouse these two large-scale productions will provide Liverpool audiences with more theatre of the highest quality after both shows have impressed with critically acclaimed West End runs.

Stephen Mallatratt’s adaptation of Susan Hill’s best-selling novel tells the story of a lawyer obsessed with a curse that he believes has been cast over his family by the spectre of a ‘Woman in Black’.

A young actor helps tell the story and relieve the lawyer’s despair. However, as they delve further into his darkest memories, they find themselves in a world of eerie marshes and moaning winds. The borders between make-believe and reality begin to fade.

Continuing its record-breaking run at the Fortune Theatre in London’s West End, The Woman in Black is back at the Playhouse to terrify audiences!

Three days later Stephen Daldry’s multi award-winning production of J.B. Priestley’s classic thriller, An Inspector Calls, visits the Playhouse and has promptly sold out its run.

Fans may still be able to get tickets for Daldry’s visionary, radical, challenging production by asking at the box office for returned tickets.

The much-celebrated story follows an investigation into the death of a young woman as a peaceful dinner party is shattered by revelations and a family is forced to examine their consciences.

An Inspector Calls runs from Tuesday 4th February to Saturday 8th February.

Following on from these the Playhouse welcomes critically acclaimed touring shows such as I Think We Are Alone (Frantic Assembly, written by Sally Abbott, co-directed by Kathy Burke and Scott Graham); Night of The Living Dead – Remix (Imitating the Dog); and SIX the musical.
