Local theatre-maker Mark Arends’ enchanting tale for all ages, The Missing Light, will visit the Everyman from 2nd-3rd November for just four performances, following critical success at London’s Old Vic and internationally.
Both moving and technically stunning, The Missing Light is a show about hopes, dreams, togetherness and friendship presented by theatre company Make Mend and Do.
Using puppetry, film, music and live animation to create a captivating silent film, this mesmerising story is created live on stage in front of the audience, before the final film is projected onto the big screen.
The Missing Light tells the story of Warple and Hilda – two elderly people from a seaside village who come together to embark on a surprising journey to overcome isolation. When loneliness, curiosity and a far-off flickering light brings them together, the two elderly friends embark on a surprising journey to reconcile their pasts and find what might lie within their futures.
Told through four cameras, a variety of puppetry sets, three puppeteers, a guitarist and a stage manager, the creative team includes set design and puppetry by Claire Harvey, lighting design by Declan Randall, and music by Mark Arends. Young people will be able to talk to the creative team after the show to find out more about how the film takes shape, or to just look at the puppets in more detail.
Mark Arends said, “Returning to Liverpool is always special for me but coming home to bring The Missing Light to the Everyman is particularly exciting. The Everyman & Playhouse are where I cut my teeth as a young actor. I’ve always considered it my “theatre home” and have been fortunate enough to come back and work here on multiple occasions. It was the first theatre on the list of venues I wanted us to tour to and I can’t wait to see what the Liverpool audiences make of our show.”
The Missing Light visits the Everyman for four performances, from Friday 2nd November to Saturday 3rd November. Tickets are available by calling Box Office on 0151 709 4776 or at: www.everymanplayhouse.com/whats-on.
