Razor-tongued Liverpool poet, musician, theatre-maker and songwriter Keith Wilson is colloquial, sharp and erudite; and alongside one of television’s and Liverpool’s most endearing personalities John Gorman, they make a formidable team, a pairing that is coming to the Heswall Coffee House on Friday 12th October.
Lyrically smart, Keith Wilson’s words are drawn from life’s warp and weft and his music straddles an Art-Rock backdrop somewhere between Zappa’s improvisation and The Bonzo Dog Band’s post Music Hall vibe.
Often hilarious, sometimes painful and occasionally poignant, his lexical acrobatics and verbal clever-dickery will convince you that poetry is more than cool. His first book of verse Irritable Vowel Syndrome was a B.B.C. regional best seller and his second collection Bumfuzzle has rapidly become a workshop manual for lonely hearts! Keith is a regular on Radio and Television and has twice been nominated for Royal Television Society Awards. He has worked extensively in the U.K. and Europe and continues to tour and record with his band The Spiritualists and has been a member of the re-invented Scaffold since 2007.
With five U.K. Top 40 hits, three U.K. Top Ten hits and one UK number 1 single (Lily The Pink), John Gorman enjoyed considerable success with The Scaffold and Grimms in the 60’s and 70’s writing and performing a mixture of comic songs, comedy sketches and poetry.
Known by a later generation for his appearances as a member of the TISWAS team, he was responsible for some of the first live anarchy on Children’s Television and wrote the Four Bucketeers hit The Bucket of Water Song which made the Top Thirty in the early eighties. He has considerable television and radio credits and remains heavily involved in writing, producing and directing live theatre. A clever and innovative comedy writer and performer, a tireless supporter of emerging new talent and an undoubted force of nature, John has been there, done that and got the t-shirt several times over.
This is a unique opportunity to see Keith and John unplugged, unpredictable and unruly in a close and intimate environment. This is a TICKET ONLY event.
Tickets for Keith Wilson & John Gorman, plus special guests at the Heswall Coffee House on Friday 12th October are on sale from the Coffee House and Tony’s Barbers directly and are priced at £10.
