Experience The Atmosphere And Excitement Of The 1960s Merseybeat Scene In A New Play By Liverpool Award-Winning Writer.

The atmosphere and excitement of the 1960s Merseybeat scene are captured in a brand new play, with original songs, at the Unity Theatre in Liverpool this May. BESTBEAT, on from Thursday 3rd – Saturday 5th May, tells the story of Pete Best, a drummer caught up in the buzz with a group called The Beatles…

Through drama, humour and live music, BESTBEAT is an exhilarating look at how in 1962, Pete was on the verge of the big time, but his life changed one fateful day and he had to find a reason to carry on.

BESTBEAT is written and directed by Francis Duffy, a Liverpool-born award-winning writer and stars Liverpool actors and musicians. Because of his passion for the story and promoting local talent, Francis has funded the show himself.

Francis said: “This city pulsed with music and potential in the 60s. It’s fantastic to be able to tell a Liverpool story in such a wonderful space as the Unity Theatre and give a platform to these brilliant local performers. If you want a night at the theatre where you end up dancing in the aisles, then BESTBEAT is for you!”

The young cast are Andrew Games as Pete Best, Leah Wallace as Cathy and Faye Caddick as Pat. The BESTBEAT band performing original songs live are Craig Gamble, Musical Director, on guitar and vocals, Francis Duffy (rhythm guitar and vocals), Mike Roberts (bass and vocals) and Daniel Stewart (drums, percussion and vocals). Songs are composed by Francis Duffy and arranged and produced by Musical Director, Craig Gamble.
