Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre Brings Hans Christian Andersen’s Dark Children’s Tale The Little Matchgirl To The Playhouse Theatre.

Shakespeare’s Globe visits the Playhouse from 13th-17th March to re-tell Hans Christian Anderson fairy tales in The Little Matchgirl (and Other Happier Tales.)

Aimed at both children and adults, the co-production by Shakespeare’s Globe and Bristol Old Vic is directed by former Kneehigh Artistic Director Emma Rice and features spellbinding storytelling through puppetry, music and magic.

The Little Matchgirl was originally written in 1845 by Hans Christian Andersen – one of the most widely translated authors in the world.

The story follows a young girl who struggles to survive – To keep warm, she strikes a match and each strike conjures up a new story or vision. Co-adaptors Joel Horwood and Emma Rice have woven other Andersen tales into the production including The Princess and the Pea, Thumbelina and The Emperor’s New Clothes.

The Little Matchgirl (and Other Happier Tales) visits the Playhouse from 13th-17th March for seven performances. Tickets are available by calling the Everyman & Playhouse Box Office on 0151 709 4776 or at https://www.everymanplayhouse.com/whats-on/the-little-matchgirl.
