Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating * * * *
Jodie Schofield is a much missed woman around Liverpool, the voice of a thousand dreams has found another part of the world in which to rest the souls of the anxious and play for those who need saving; it is a loss that quite rightly many in the acoustic scene of Liverpool have felt but it was also one that was quickly rectified, albeit too briefly as the performer behind SheBeat, not only hosted her day of praising all things beard but also found time to perform songs and put her new SheBeat E.P. into the public gaze.
Although there are many reasons for which SheBeat is missed around town, one of them is her outstanding generosity of spirit, arguably there cannot be a single person in the area who at one time or another has not felt the comforting hand and reassuring guitar chords sweep over them as they have taken in the words of the musician. It is that sound of comfort, of smooth relief that has made SheBeat so popular and it is the essence of the woman that will not be filled anytime soon as the acoustic scene in the city is forced, as it always is when such events occur, to go on without a leading voice.
For one delightful afternoon only though balance, as they might say in some popular certain science fictions franchises, to the force was restored, SheBeat stood before the crowd and delivered a class act of both music and entertainment for the bleak Saturday afternoon and it was all done without the aid of a small green Jedi; just perseverance, skill and true dedication to reminding those who have taken her music to their heart, exactly what they are missing.
The day certainly revolved around what Ms. Schofield has done for Liverpool over the last few years, but it was not a moment in which she was to become entrenched within, this is not a woman who lets such things go to her head and it shows in her abundant music and her deep seated personality of spirit.
With songs such as Feels Like, Yours Sincerely and the apt Rainproof all being delivered in that measured but beautifully hypnotic way many have come to rely on, SheBeat reigned once more in amongst the hirsute and the acoustic lover in equal praiseworthy acclaim.
Missed in the venues, this was a timely reminder to all to take care of those music acts and artists you love, for eventually people move on and in that hole of silence that fills the gap, yearning is all consuming; a terrific welcome back to SheBeat to Liverpool, even if it was just for the day.
