After a body is discovered at a demonstration, a tangled web of deception is unearthed. Is anyone who they say they are? And how far will they go to keep their secrets?
Roseacre was inspired by the recent revelations concerning the Metropolitan Police’s use of undercover officers to infiltrate activist communities. When it emerged that an undercover officer had fathered two children with an activist, questions were raised about the nature of police surveillance. Roseacre explores these issues within a fast paced Nordic Noir inspired drama.
Using Square Peg Theatre’s distinct cinematic style, Roseacre blends beautifully choreographed physical theatre with a powerful character-driven story to create a visceral adventure into the heartland of our morality.
Roseacre was commissioned by Waterside Arts Centre, Sale, premiering July 2015. It was supported in its development by HOME, Manchester; The Lowry, Salford Quays; Unity Theatre, Liverpool; Harrogate Theatre, Harrogate; and Leeds Libraries, who commissioned the first stage R&D though their Word Play scheme. The production has also been supported by Peggy Ramsey Foundation, Unity Theatre Trust, The Leche Trust, and Arts Council England.
