Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating * * * *
The Jokers, bringing back classic rock to the masses, as sure and cool as they can and aided by the fact that vocalist Wayne Parry has a unique voice suited to old style rock n roll which is often missed in this generation of music; coupled with a classic guitar solos, rhythm bass and brilliant drum beats makes the band stand out from others of their kind.
Songs such as Rock ‘n’ Roll’s Alive and Hurricane entices the audience and with the lyrics easily picked up, it generates an atmosphere matched for the Academy and arena venues. Songs from the new album Hurricane were performed brilliantly and were openly welcomed by the audience.
Displaying a promising outlook for the album itself and future tours. The songs are tailored to those who prefer hard rock as well as those who prefer a lighter more classic sound, meaning they will be accepted easily by any audience.
The guitar solos were strong but repetitive in some cases and didn’t seem to be accepted as much as they deserved to be by the audience. The bass was played solidly throughout and the drums were played soundly to create a hard rock beat to the songs. The songs fitted vocalist’s Wayne Parry talents perfectly, giving the edge needed for the songs to stand out in a business where everyone sounds the same. This led to a strong performance from the band as a whole.
However the band were a little under-appreciated by the audience at the Liverpool Academy . This is most likely to be due to them being a support band and an early concert start. However if they were to headline they would receive the appreciation they deserve for generating the classic rock sound.
