Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating 9/10
Hayseed Dixie are an example to how tribute bands should be. What’s the point in seeing or hearing a covers group if they sound the same as the original? The gentlemen from Hayseed Dixie give a fantastic yet unusual twist to rock n roll, as distorted guitar solos are replaced by a banjo and acoustic guitars.
Well known classic songs such as Don’t Stop Believing and Eye Of The Tiger give them a new lease in music rather than just being hits everyone knows from interactive games such as Guitar Hero. In addition their take on Ace Of Spades is interesting and brilliantly performed. Due to their original sound they are a band not just for rock and heavy metal fans but a band for all who are inquisitive enough to know when something good comes their way.
However some of the songs appeared to have the same beat and solos meaning they perhaps lost the affect at times but the audience had a high response and a strong stage performance made the repetition seem irrelevant in the long run.
With political and philosophical viewpoints between songs adding humour to the concert, this was the feeling of a “one of a kind” type of gig and the idea that no two Hayseed Dixie concerts will ever be the same. These were enjoyed by the crowd as much as the musical aspect of the group; a band that can only be summed up in the singer’s own words as an “Educated redneck and a dangerous man”.
