Full casting is announced for Nick Bagnall’s production of The Two Gentlemen of Verona, a co-production between Liverpool Everyman & Playhouse and Shakespeare’s Globe. The production includes Charlotte Mills as Launce, Dharmesh Patel, Garry Cooper and Adam Keast.
The Two Gentlemen of Verona has begun rehearsals and will open at Chilham Castle in Kent at the end of May before touring nationally and internationally. The production will finish its tour at the Everyman in October following a run at the Sam Wannamaker Playhouse at Shakespeare’s Globe.
Charlotte Mills will play Launce. Charlotte is renowned for her role as Tanya in Jez Buttereworth’s Jerusalem, playing the role at the Royal Court, West End, Broadway from 2009 to 2011. At Shakespeare’s Globe Charlotte played Queen Mary in Gabriel and she played Tink in Wendy and Peter Pan at the R.S.C. Her other stage credits include By Jeeves (Landor Theatre) and Billy Liar (West Yorkshire Playhouse) both directed by Nick Bagnall and The Winter’s Tale (R.S.C.). Charlotte has just completed filming for The Moorside Project for the B.B.C. and has also appeared in Doctor Thorne for I.T.V.
Dharmesh Patel will play Proteus. Dharmesh has recently taken the roles of Ferdinand in The Tempest and Philario in Cymbeline in the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse. Other recent theatre includes East is East (National Tour), Fever Dream: Southside (Citizens Theatre, Glasgow), Albion (Bush Theatre), Too Clever By Half (Manchester Exchange) and The Snow Queen (Trestle Theatre Tour). Dharmesh, who trained at Liverpool John Moores University, has worked extensively with the R.S.C., on productions including King Lear, Hamlet, The Comedy of Errors, As You Like It, Romeo and Juliet, American Trade, The Grain Store and Morte d’Arthur.
Garry Cooper will play Duke. Last year Garry played Oberon in Nick Bagnall’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Everyman. Garry’s credits for Shakespeare’s Globe include The Last Days of Troy and Henry VI Parts 1, 2 and 3. His other stage credits include Billy Liar (West Yorkshire Playhouse); Long Time Dead (Paines Plough/Traverse); Rosmersholm (Almeida Theatre); King Lear (ETT); Mean Tears, Entertaining Strangers (National Theatre); Salonika, Susan’s Breasts (Royal Court Theatre); Danton, Real Dreams and Wallenstein (Royal Shakespeare Company).
Adam Keast will play Speed. Adam played Andrew Aguecheek in Twelfth Night, the inaugural production at the new Everyman in 2014. His credits include numerous rock ‘n’ roll pantos at the Everyman and The Sound of Fury and Ferry ‘Cross The Mersey at Liverpool Playhouse. His other credits include Our Day Out and Lennon (Royal Court, Liverpool), Like A Heartbeat (West Yorkshire Playhouse Studio); Buddy Vs The Killer (Indonesia/Malaysia); Just Like That (Edinburgh/Tour) and The Buddy Holly Story (Victoria Palace, London).
Guy Hughes will play Valentine. Guy’s recent stage credits include The Winter’s Tale (Cheek by Jowl) for which he was also Music Supervisor, and for the R.S.C., Othello and The Merchant of Venice. In musical theatre, he has worked as both an actor and musician for Stepping Out Theatre Company’s Tess of the D’ubervilles and TKD Productions San Domino. Screen roles include The Rise and Fall of the Krays.
Aruhan Galieva will play Sylvia. Known as both an actor and singer, Aruhan has worked as sole soprano on Karl Jenkin’s albums Tlep and Shakarim. In theatre, her recent work includes Bakkhai (Almeida Theatre) and King John (Shakespeare’s Globe and on tour). Aruhan is a member of the National Youth Theatre, with whom she has performed in numerous productions, including Romeo and Juliet, Tory Boyz and Prince of Denmark. Screen work includes Glasgow Girls (B.B.C. 3), Whitechapel (Carnival Films) and Anna Karenina.
Leah Brotherhead will play Julia. Leah’s stage credits include the roles of Jane Seymour, Lady Mary and Lady Worcester in Wolf Hall/Bring Up the Bodies (R.S.C., West End and Broadway), Another Place (Theatre Royal Plymouth), Pride and Prejudice (Regent’s Park), Dr Faustus (West Yorkshire Playhouse/Glasgow Citizens Theatre) and People Like Us (The Pleasance). On screen, credits include Casualty and Doctors for the B.B.C., Vera for I.T.V. and Drifters for E4.
Amber James will play Lucetta. Amber is a recent graduate of Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Since graduating Amber’s professional stage appearances have been as Hero in Much Ado About Nothing at Queen’s Theatre, Hornchurch and as Aurelia Ndjeya in The Gathered Leaves at Park Theatre.
Fred Thomas will be a Musician and Crab the Dog. Fred recently performed in John Cage Musicircus at Aldeburgh Festival, he has collaborated and toured with Spanish National Dance Company and has residencies at Yard Theatre and Richmix, London. Fred is a composer and performer and has made more than 15 albums. On stage he has recently performed at Womad, Glastonbury, LSO St. Luke’s, Southbank Centre, Kings Place, ICA and Birmingham Symphony Hall (CBSO).
The Two Gentlemen of Verona, directed by Nick Bagnall is on at the Liverpool Everyman from the 5th to the 29th October.
