Self-proclaimed ‘funny men’ tackle drought of sketch comedy with brand new show on the 14th April at 81 Renshaw Street, Liverpool.
‘The Sketch Men’ are a new comedy duo based out of Manchester and Liverpool planning to trigger an appreciation for an area of comedy they feel has has been somewhat neglected by the audiences of Great Britain.
‘Attempted Jokes’ – the self-deprecating title of their new, one hour, show- features a selection of character based and sketch style comedy and is an invitation for audience members to re-discover a style of joke telling in which Great Britain has a history and reputation for mastery.
Zach Slater, co-founder of Duck and Cover Theatre said, “We feel as though sketch comedy has been a bit forgotten in this country, specifically on screen. There’s a plethora of strong acts, many of which we’ve seen, who are trying to raise their profile, but few managing to get that big break. It seems as though the genre has fallen out of favour a touch in the last 5-6 years, we want people to remember that sketch comedy still has a thriving pulse.”
‘The Sketch Men’ are an arm of Duck and Cover Theatre, a northern based theatre company formed by The Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts graduates Jack Taylor-Wood and Zach Slater. Their debut show ‘Guaranteed Nudity’ enjoyed a near sell out run at the 2014 Edinburgh Fringe and since then the boys have been working hard to improve their form.
Jack Taylor Wood said, “We learnt a lot during the process of writing, producing and performing the last show. ‘Guaranteed Nudity’ was a topical show, it explored some quite heavy issues happening around the globe, albeit through comedy. This time we tried to really get to the essence of silliness.”
