Young Everyman Playhouse graduate Kieran Urquhart returns to Liverpool in a new adaptation of Roald Dahl’s The Witches at the Everyman from 15th to 19th March. Urquhart, who made his professional debut in Bright Phoenix at the Everyman is joined Fox Jackson-Keen who recently starred in I Was a Rat at Liverpool Playhouse. The production is directed by Nikolai Foster, Artistic Director of Curve, Leicester.
Roald Dahl’s scariest book is brought to life in a tremendously terrifying treat for the whole family. The production is presented by Curve and Rose Theatre Kingston and is adapted by renowned children’s theatre dramatist David Wood whose stage adaptations of well-known books include Dick King-Smith’s Babe the Sheep-Pig; Roald Dahl’s The BFG; Tom’s Midnight Garden and The Tiger Who Came to Tea.
Witches absolutely detest children. They find them revolting and are planning to wipe them out like weasels! They want to squish them and squiggle them and make them disappear, however one brave young boy and his grandmother have a plan to get rid of the witches for good… if only they can avoid being turned into mice.
Kieran Urquhart plays Bruno. Kieran began his career in Young Everyman Playhouse’s production of The Grid, going on to make his professional debut on the Everyman stage in Bright Phoenix in 2014. His other theatre credits include Scuttlers (Manchester Royal Exchange), Adrift (Action Transport/Unity Theatre) and Jason and the Argonauts (Off the Ground Theatre).
Fox Jackson-Keen plays Boy. His theatre credits include Billy Elliot (West End), I Was a Rat (at the Playhouse in 2013) and Pinocchio (Point Theatre, Eastleigh). For television, his credits include My Phone Genie (C.I.T.V), New Tricks (B.B.C.), Casualty (B.B.C.) and Doctors (B.B.C.).
Directed by Curve Artistic Director, Nikolai Foster, The Witches features a hugely talented cast of actor-musicians and mind-boggling illusions that will leave you flabbergasted! Nikolai directed Kes at the Playhouse in 2009 and his work at Curve, Leicester includes Beautiful Thing, Richard III, Our Country’s Good and A Streetcar Named Desire.
Sarah Ingram plays Grand High Witch. Her theatre credits include Annie (West Yorkshire Playhouse), Chicago (Leicester Haymarket) and Cabaret (Sheffield Crucible). Karen Mann plays Grandma. Her many theatre credits include Alice in Wonderland, The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe and Animal Farm (all for the West Yorkshire Playhouse and Birmingham Rep).
The cast also includes Sioned Saunders (Calamity Jane, Watermill Theatre; James & the Giant Peach, Birmingham Old Rep & U.K. tour and Robin Hood, New Wolsey Theatre, Ipswich), Elexi Walker (The Libertine and The Jungle Book, both Citizens Theatre, and To Kill A Mockingbird, York Theatre Royal) and Justin Wilman (Depraved Appetite of Tarrare the Freak ,Bristol Old Vic; Calamity Jane, U.K. Tour and Midnight at the Boar’s Head, Fine Chisel Theatre).
