What if Mary and Jesus had been born again today… and they had lost themselves in consumerism? Life may be easier than 2,000 years ago – cheaper, more glitter, great bargains – and why travel by donkey when you can fly with a budget airline?
Combining bouffon (inspired by the technique of Philippe Gaulier), clown and intriguing imagery, the comedy Resurrection Half Price transports the audience to a strange new world and comes to the Unity Theatre in Wednesday 13th April.
This is the first production of Teatro Pomodoro a theatre company who believes that theatre can be a universal language: the company is formed by actors from Spain, Italy, Canada, Japan and U.K. These actors chose Liverpool as their base to create theatrical performances for audiences of different languages and cultural backgrounds, for the vitality and openness of the local theatre-makers community.
Teatro Pomodoro, formerly known as Ideas Worth a Penny, is an international cast of performers who were brought together in Paris at Ecole Philippe Gaulier and moved to the U.K. few years ago.
They are interested with focusing on themes through Bouffon, which questions the importance of the mainstream belief of happiness, and gives a point of view to the outcasts and those who have been rejected from society. These people come back from their shadows to show us the truths in the lies that we build our lives upon. When creating a piece they start with a theme or statement, then they begin exploring images and a voice in response to them.
The show was created for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2014 and it comes after a successful run there and at the Camden Fringe 2015.
Tickets for the performance are priced at £12 with concessions available at £10. Tickets can be purchased from the Unity Theatre Box office, by telephone on 0151 7094988 or online at www.unitytheatreliverpool.co.uk.
