Following sell-out performances in London, Regent’s Park Theatre’s critically acclaimed production of William Golding’s Lord of the Flies will be at the Playhouse from Tuesday 2nd to Saturday 6th February.
This bold and thrilling vision of the iconic book is brought to the stage by Regent’s Park Theatre’s Artistic Director Timothy Sheader. Timothy has won numerous awards for his work, including three Olivier Awards for Crazy for You, Dolly! and In To The Woods.
The production is designed by Jon Bausor who created the iconic sets for Ghost Stories and No Wise Men at the Playhouse in recent years. Lord of the Flies is no less impactful, with an entire plane set to dominate the stage.
Nigel Williams’ adaptation is an updated version of the classic tale with references to modern popular culture dappled into Golding’s original text, bringing it right up to date for today’s audiences. Added to this are slow-motion and audio visual effects, fire fights and a haunting score that all add to a grand, cinematic canvas of the play.
After a group of schoolboys survive a catastrophic plane crash, what starts as a classic desert island adventure quickly descends into a struggle for survival in a darkly sinister world of superstition and immorality. William Golding’s 20th century classic explodes onto the stage in this remarkable production.
First published in 1954, Lord of the Flies was William Golding’s debut novel and is a brutal exploration of civilization, savagery and a loss of innocence. His other works including Free Fall, The Spire, Rites of Passage (Booker Prize winner), The Paper Men and Fire Down Below. In 1983 Golding was awarded The Nobel Prize in Literature.
The cast of young actors includes Luke Ward-Wilkinson who has appeared regularly in television series Wild at Heart (I.T.V.) and Beautiful People (B.B.C) and Freddie Watkins whose film credits include Nativity and Nativity 2. Both Luke and Freddie are making their stage debuts in the play. The rest of the cast are Michael Ajao, Matthew Castle, Yossi Goodlink, Jonathan Holby, Dylan Llewellyn, Keenan Munn-Francis Fellipe Pigatto, Thiago Pigatto and Anthony Roberts.
