Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating 8.5/10
It may the cry of the broken hearted, the exclaimed weep of those in search of valiant redemption but in the thunder splitting The Jackobins’ new single, One More Chance is not a sign of weakness, of grief over spilling into the realms of the sentimental. It is the toughness of spirit that grants that one person a shot of deliverance and in true Jackobins’ style it is wonderfully gruff, it is the sound of liberation, of the salvo of guns reigning down and offering a shelter from the ensuing storm.
It is down to the style of the Jackobins that such a song exists, a track which harness the power of a truly great live act and places all the excess presented by the studio into several outstanding minutes of blistering anarchy and perseverance. The style, the absolute exuberance and fought over knitting together of desire and comfortable rebellion has never been far from the surface when it comes to the day to day of the Jackobins’ life but in One More Chance, the rebellion it seems gathers new impetus, more importance and if their live performances over the course of 2015 have added to this then so be it; for the flag of deafening but sincere thunder must always be heard and taken to heart.
One More Chance has that groove, that roar you come to expect but it also ransacks the senses and the opening segment is a rare case of leaving the listener breathless with salivating expectancy and the joy in the nerves enhanced for the oncoming finish. It is a finish that does not disappoint and only acts as an ache for more, the twinge of regret that the long wait for new of a new album might be a terrible way to spend the first few months of the year
Meaty, full of demanding vigour and the throbbing aroma of Jackobins’ panache many have come to expect as a right, One More Chance is the sting of tremendous fortune that the New Year asks for to inspire the need for more; a pulsating start to 2016.
