Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating 9/10
It is the open secrets that blind the ignorant, that leave the song unheard for fear of encroaching upon something new and untested and yet those that with even half a heart of interest initially, never to fail to find the whole picture, the entire song played with passion, a joy and a source of bliss to find wonder within.
It is a wonder that sees Liverpool’s Hayley Hampson fulfil a role that has been waiting, breathing with true intent in the wings and away from the stage in which local audiences are perhaps more familiar with her work. In spite of that, she has worked hard, she has taken everything on the chin and placed herself out there and now the real journey begins as her single Butterflies is released onto an unsuspecting world and for collectors of fine things out there, Butterflies is one hell of a rare catch.
The song, reflective, powerful, full of emotion that smashes apart barriers and self imposed walls with a tender whisper, is beautifully captured and is true indication of a voice which has had many entranced with its beauty.
It might be seen as the first tentative steps that Ms. Hampson takes but there will be none sign of the thousand steps, the huge amount of miles she has trudged and smiled though to get to this fantastic place and the song is an expression of her own self-belief in wanting to make music a beast that is tangible and also homely. It is a track that is sincere in wanting to send a signal out to those who dare suggest to anyone that people should not have dreams, that to have hope and ambition is an illusion, is but idle speculation and the talk of the ground down.
In Hayley Hampson, Butterflies are not so rare a sight to envisage taking flight, they soar with careful attraction and as with the song, are beautiful to be immersed within; a cracking song by a woman of absolute worth.
Butterflies is released on December 22nd.
