I want to stand in History’s shadow
and place the aged and disfigured photograph
of a previous voyage next to one
taken today,
the same spot, the same pose and perhaps
the same smile from bright blue eyes,
but withered by Time, the crunch back position
held aloft by determination and bugger it attitude;
I want, I desire, covet in all its glory
to stand where history’s shadow once fell
and see the world from that angle
once more.
From that crooked display of fighting Time,
of allowing the sepia memory captured by
roll of film and borrowed camera…
I will take on Time, I will breathe fire
whilst the coal in my heart slowly diminishes,
I will allow the fire, the bellowing of passion
to be triggered every day
and as the coal turns to dust
and so therefore must I;
I will create inferno and blaze with
a ruptured glory, I will detonate
the grenade at the heart of Time
and smile as the spirit ignites,
I will see a picture taken in yet more ports
and scream abuse and defiance at more clustered storms,
I will create Time.
Dedicated To Paula Kelly who first saw the Fire.
