Liverpool Sound and Vision Rating * * * *
The softly spoken but dynamite lyricist SheBeat once more was made to feel more than welcome as part of the Above The Beaten Track Festival at the Bluecoat and it is with little wonder as the sound of carefully laid out creativity echoed through the Sandon Room at the Bluecoat and the smile on the faces inside as they enjoyed the songs was something to behold.
SheBeat is a firm favourite amongst the Liverpool acoustic crowd, lyrically captivating, a voice in which charms and the sound of a guitar being played with honour and true satisfaction, there really is nothing in which this talented musician, who only started performing live a couple of years ago, cannot put her mind to. It is that dedication to learning, to striking a chord which thrills a crowd no matter where she plays that makes her an artist in which people cannot wait to see.
Taking time out from her own event on the other side of town where all things beard were being celebrated with just cause, the five songs SheBeat performed bordered on the verge of exquisite and the solid white room in which many an acoustic set had been performed in over the years wept silently with joy with the knowledge of having yet another artist to add to its roll of honour.
The five songs in the set-list, She Never Sleeps Alone, Feels Like, Always On The Run, Super Moon Lover and the wonderful Lonely At The Top (The Monkey Song) were greeted with unabridged smiles of delight and the understanding of just how far this respected musician has come in such a short time filtered and multiplied in all present.
It is impossible to not like SheBeat, her tone is one of understated brilliance, imaginative and courageous, she remains one to whom the beat is nothing but pure in heart and spirit.
SheBeat will be appearing in selected venues in New York during September.
