The hugely successful London Royal Court Theatre production, Constellations is set to charm and amaze audiences at the Liverpool Playhouse from 19th to 23rd May. Starring Sherlock’s Louise Brealey and Robin Hood’s Joe Armstrong, this explosive new play by leading playwright Nick Payne explores free will and friendship.
Featuring one relationship which turns out to have infinite possibilities, Constellations handles the concept of quantum multiverse with light dynamism that will dazzle and exhilarate audiences. Funny, sad and intellectual, all at the same time, Constellations is a feat of modern playwriting.
Sparked by a first encounter, bee-keeping Roland and scientist Marianne explore the boundless potential of their connection in a heart-breaking love story of endless invention.
The pair then meet repeatedly in a succession of scenes and audiences are shown how their encounters and relationship could have turned out differently as a result of varying factors such as the words they said or the tone of voice they used.
Audiences will recognise Louise Brealey, playing Marianne, from the hit B.B.C. series, Sherlock and The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel and Joe Armstrong from the B.B.C.’s The Village and Robin Hood. Louise has recently appeared in Miss Julie (Citizens Theatre) and The Herd (Bush). Joe’s recent theatre credits include, The Dumb Waiter (Print Room), Miss Julie (Royal Exchange).
Directed by Michael Longhurst, this hugely successful play comes to Liverpool having previously enjoyed sell-out runs at London’s Royal Court, the West End and most recently on Broadway.
Since winning the George Devine Award in 2009, Nick Payne has grown to be one of the U.K.’s foremost playwrights. Currently playwright in residence at the Donmar Warehouse, his other plays include, Incognito (HighTide Festival/Bush), Blurred Lines (National Theatre), The Same Deep Water As Me (Donmar Warehouse) and If There Is I Haven’t Found it Yet (The Bush).
