They’ve recently been hailed as one of the staples of the Liverpool theatre scene, and now PurpleCoat are making waves across the water. Their second visit to Dublin, with a double-bill of Hamlet and A Midsummer Night’s Dream, has received five star reviews across the water, and is now heading back home for some performances at the Bombed Out Church.
Headlining part of the Raise The Roof festival, PurpleCoat’s ensemble of young Liverpool actors will present A Midsummer Night’s Dream, with the same cast then staging their five star Hamlet a few weeks later.
‘We’re delighted to be at the Bombed Out Church’ says director, Karl Falconer. ‘We’ve always loved the venue and we’re proud to be supporting their cause in this fantastic festival. And we’re only bringing these shows back home because they’ve had so much interest, we got standing ovations over in Dublin, so we think the audiences here are in for a treat.’
The last time PurpleCoat visited Dublin, it was for part of their sell-out Twelfth Night On Tour, which also came to Calderstones Park. To celebrate their performances at the Bombed Out Church, PurpleCoat are also reviving this production as the final part of their Shakespeare Takeover. The same ensemble will produce and perform all three plays.
Last month, PurpleCoat premiered their new short film, Sad.Man.Smiling, at F.A.C.T. and their Youth Theatre are about to perform with the National Theatre in Manchester and London. It’s a busy time for the company, who are looking to collaborate with more young people and local businesses within Liverpool to expand further. A Midsummer Night’s Dream plays on 21st April and 19th May and Hamlet runs from 30th April – 1st May and Twelfth Night from 20th-22nd May. All performances begin at 7.30, tickets are priced at £7 and £5. Tickets on sale now from www.ticketsource.co.uk/bombedoutchurch.
