Regal Entertainments are proud to announce the casting of Laura Gregory in the role of Aurora, Sleeping Beauty, in their upcoming production of Sleeping Beauty at St Helen’s Theatre Royal.
Running this spring half term from Friday 3rd to Sunday 12th April at St Helens Theatre Royal, audiences can expect magic, glitz, glamour, suspense and humour- all the ingredients that have helped to keep the Theatre Royal’s past seasonal shows so successful.
St Helen’s Theatre Royal welcomes Laura Gregory, as a she becomes the beautiful Princess Aurora, cursed to prick her finger and fall into eternal slumber, only to be awoken by her one true love. Gregory is no stranger to the role of Princess, having captivating audiences in several well-loved pantomimes at The Epstein Theatre, including Aladdin (alongside fellow Sleeping Beauty cast member Leanne Campbell) in Easter 2014, and the title role in 2013’s Christmas pantomime Snow White.
She was specially selected from 90 actresses who auditioned for the role through Radio City, auditioning at Dolphin Dance Studios in front of a panel of judges including Producer/Director Chantelle Nolan, Musical Director George Francis, Choreographer Sarah Walker and Radio City’s Leanne Campbell and Claire Simmo. A stunning all round performer, Laura won the day through a series of auditions including a cappella singing, acting and dancing.
Joining Laura to bring this enchanting tale to life will be the voice of Radio City 96.7 Leanne Campbell as the evil fairy Carabosse, alongside another member of the Radio City team, the return of everyone’s favourite fairy Claire Simmo. The hilarious Liam Mellor returns after his side-splitting performance as Simple Simon in last Christmas’s Jack and the Beanstalk. Completing the line-up is St Helens’ resident Dame, Simon Foster, bringing his slapstick fun and chaos to the stage.
Sleeping Beauty tells the enchanting tale of Princess Aurora, who is cursed by the evil fairy Carabosse after failing to receive an invite to the Royal Christening, claiming that if the Princess pricks her finger, she will die. Years later at her 16th birthday, Aurora is tricked into piercing her finger on a spinning wheel by the evil fairy. After the curse is countered by the Lilac Fairy, Aurora instead falls into a deep and eternal slumber, which can only be broken by a kiss from her true love.
Will the beautiful princess find her true love and be freed from the evil fairy’s curse? What fate awaits the evil fairy? Set your alarms and get down to St. Helens Theatre Royal this Easter for a truly magical adventure.
