The Playhouse Theatre is tickled to announce that Liverpool’s own king of comedy, Ken Dodd, will be providing the voice for one of the characters in the Playhouse’s Christmas comedy show Sex and the Three Day Week. Ken, who cites the Playhouse as his favourite theatre, will be the voice of Tom the Mynah bird in the play which runs at the Williamson Square venue from Friday 5th December to Saturday 10th January.
Ken is no stranger to the Playhouse stage. He famously played Malvolio in Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night at the Playhouse in 1971 and has appeared there numerous times with his Diddymen and tickling sticks in his Happiness Show.
Sex and the Three Day Week is a hilarious comedy by Liverpool writer Stephen Sharkey set in the 1970s; a time of strikes, blackouts, free love and the three day week. A pair of naughty neighbours check in at the Paradise Hotel but a chaotic cocktail of confusion leave the would-be lovebirds not even halfway to Paradise.
Chief among their obstructers is the eccentric Miss Mayhew and her pet Tom the Mynah Bird, voiced by Ken. The Mynah is renowned for its ability to talk just like a human, and this Mynah can’t help but put his beak where the wandering couples don’t want it, leaving all concerned all discomnockerated!
