Described by The Times as “the future of British theatre” Dan Bye (who brought The Price Of Everything to Unity in 2012) has been creating a stir in the world of theatre, and now shows you how you can do the same in the world of protest with How To Occupy an Oil Rig which is coming to the Unity Theatre on March 19th.
After enjoying a wave of positive acclaims from his stint at Northern Stage at St Stephens in Edinburgh 2014, Daniel Bye is taking his latest work on tour, with a stop at Unity Theatre.
How To Occupy an Oil Rig sets out to explore all sorts of lessons to be learned in life, such how to behave on a protest march, how to cope with police interrogation and how to avoid becoming romantically involved with an undercover police officer; that sort of thing.
How-to demonstration meets literal style storytelling in this extraordinary new show set in the real world of the environmental protest movement. When a group of protestors occupied a North Sea oil rig in 2009, little did they suspect the lies and betrayals that would follow!
Daniel describes his theatrical approach as “immediate, playful, surprising and engaged with the world we all live in”. He has created work for the West Yorkshire Playhouse, Red Ladder and Pilot Theatre amongst others and has trained with Philippe Gaulier, the Royal Shakespeare Company, and the National Theatre Studio.
Tickets for How To Occupy an Oil Rig are priced at £12 with concessions available at £10. Tickets are available to purchase from the Unity Theatre Box office, online at www.unitytheatreliverpool.co.uk or by phone on 0844 8732888.
