The Wizard Of Oz Comes To Knowsley Leisure And Culture Park.

An international star of pop band S Club 7, an Eastender’s soap star and Citv star are set to join forces on May 24th and 25th at Knowsley Leisure and Culture Park in The Wizard Of Oz!

The venue’s May half term production of The Wizard of Oz will see S Club 7 pop star Tina Barrett delight with a truly evil performance as the Witch of the West opposite Eastender’s star Melissa Suffield as Dorothy and star of Citv’s Hi 5 Chris Edgerley.

S Club 7 have certainly established a place in the history books of modern culture. Known to millions across the world, they were formed by Spice Girls manager Simon Fuller and sold over ten million albums, received two Brit Awards and were awarded Record of the Year. An audience of 90 million world-wide viewers enjoyed their popular T.V. series and a box office smash-hit movie, Seeing Double, along with numerous sell-out arena tours.

Chart-topping Tina has travelled the world and there can’t be many people who haven’t sang along to hits Never Had a Dream Come True, Reach and Don’t Stop Movin’ to name just a few. S Club 7 first came to public notice in the B.B.C. series Miami 7 which saw the group working in a hotel and entertaining guests with their song and dance routines. The series was so popular, LA 7, Hollywood 7 and Viva S Club followed, airing in 100 countries. The programme has since been credited with inspiring a new generation of teenage television musicals such as High School Musical and Glee.

Kevin Brown producer for the show said, “Tina trained at the London Arts Educational School for eight years so she brings her amazing vocal talent and the performance skills to bring Witch of the West to life on stage and making her a lovely villain to boo and hiss as she tries to get the red shoes from Dorothy.

Eastender’s star Melissa Suffield is known to millions as Lucy Beale from the hit soap. But now she is taking on a role a world away from Ian Beale’s wayward daughter by playing the role of Dorothy.

Melissa, who is 21, was just 11 when she landed the role of Lucy in the B.B.C. soap and was in it for six years. Besides EastEnders she is also proud of presenting the documentary 16: Too Young to Vote. She has also done a comedy for Sky called Little Cracker, travelled to Argentina for Celebrity Total Wipeout and took the lead role in an independent film called Rough and Ready, among her list of credits. Recently she has been back in the studio’s filming for new episodes of Casualty!

Kevin Brown explained, “I first worked with Melissa at Christmas when she played Snow White. I’m looking forward to her performance as Dorothy which will see her be being transported to the land of Oz to visit the great Wizard of Oz. Along the way she will meet a scarecrow, Tin Man and The Cowardly Lion.
