Described by The Times as “The country’s leading musical satirist“, Mitch Benn has been a favourite for more than a decade on B.B.C. Radio 4’s Now Show.
His new show, coming to the Liverpool Epstein Theatre on Saturday 22nd February, combines his Scouse upbringing, his love of music and a lifelong obsession with Liverpool’s most famous sons. It is most definitely not a tribute show and while his affection for his subjects is well documented, expect the satirical twists for which Mitch is well known. As Mitch himself says, “Many have claimed the title “Fifth Beatle”. They can’t all be right; some were righter than others…”
The show premiered at the Edinburgh Fringe 2013 to much critical acclaim and he has recently recorded an abridged version for B.B.C. Radio 4. This is its first UK. Tour.
Mitch’s first novel, Terra was published last year by Gollancz. A science fiction fable for the young at heart, Neil Gaiman described it as “wise, funny and above all human“. The paperback edition is published summer 2014.
Television and radio credits include The One Show (B.B.C.1), Watchdog (B.B.C.1), numerous series of the The Now Show (B.B.C. Radio 4), three series of Mitch Benn’s Crimes Against Music (B.B.C. Radio 4), Gas (Channel 4) as well as presenting Out There for Carlton World, an investigative program on the Paranormal. He also contributed songs to Bremner, Bird & Fortune (Channel 4).
Tickets for Mitch Benn can be purchased from The Epstein Theatre Box office.
