The Lantern Theatre in Liverpool is used to hosting the comedic machinations of the superb Shiny New Theatre during the summer period but now it will witness the birth of a new comedy night on Friday 25th October.
Shiny New Comedy Lab will launch this week with a free comedy night but with a different concept on which to hang its coat and well prepared mockery. The concept differs greatly from your traditional stand up club. Instead of seeing comics perform their bread and butter safe routines they book acts willing to try out brand material in front of an open minded audience.
The first evening is hosted by former University of Liverpool graduate Alastair Clark and the line-up for this month is Liam Pickford, Brendan Burton, Adam Staunton and Dan Hayes.
After the launch the night will be Wednesdays once a month. It will serve as a place people can try out their new material before crafting it into a slicker routine. What Shiny New Comedy Lab is hoping to achieve is a vibrant comedy environment with the rough edges left on and people will won’t be stifled or forced have to play it safe or tame as could happen in a commercial gig for a non-comedy audience. To keep things different from the usual comedy club experience every effort is being made to make sure the evening showcases other forms of comedy than your normal stand up.
The lantern Theatre is the perfect venue for this as the intimate atmosphere and audience being so close to the act will only make this a more direct experience. That coupled with the venue being a theatre rather than a bar or pub means you get a different audience from the a lot of the main places you see comedy.
Doors are 7pm and the show starts at 8pm and entrance is free.
